Movie Review: Shubh Mangal Saavdhan

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhoomi Pednekar
Its a funny movie about a “gents problem” with some fabulous performances by not just the lead cast, but all the characters.
The movie begins with an engagement and goes into flashback telling us how the couple meet and fall in love. Its a sweet little tale with a modern twist where the shy guy directly sends the marriage proposal thru an online site.
The girl is happy, but unhappy that she couldn’t experience the “being in love” and filmy Amrish Puri kind scenario.
After engagment, during a make out session, they realise that the guy had this erectile dysfunction problem which they call “gents problem”. The way they show it on screen is hilarious. I’ll never be able to eat biscuit dipped in tea the same way as before ;-p
A lot of incidents happen between the engagment and marriage and each scene is dealt with very nicely, with the right element of fun and emotion.
The movie does try to send out a message about what it is like to be a real man. A real man is one who doesn’t do any wrong and doesn’t allow anything wrong to happen around him.
But all this is said it’s a very nice way. The movie shows how a man can break typical stereotypes of the society about men and women. Not for a single moment the movie appears preachy.
Overall, it’s a sweet love family love story with some great performances.
I would give it a 4/5.
